Mogadishu Port Authority Engages in High-Level Talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), accompanied the Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Bihi Egeh, and the Chairperson of the Somali Development and Reconstruction Bank, Ms. Hodan Aadan Cismaan, on an official working visit to Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and advancing investment partnerships.

During the visit, the Somali delegation held a productive meeting at the Saudi Ministry of Finance headquarters with the Saudi Vice Minister of Finance, H.E. Abdulmuhsen bin Sa’ad Alkhalaf, alongside senior government officials. Discussions focused on deepening economic ties between the two countries, with Somalia’s Minister of Finance presenting the government’s national development and investment plans. Key priority sectors highlighted included infrastructure development, marine resources, livestock, agriculture, and energy.

Both sides agreed to advance discussions to the technical level, marking an important step toward the potential development of a bilateral investment treaty that would support long-term economic cooperation and sustainable growth between Somalia and Saudi Arabia.

As part of the visit, the delegation also participated in a high-level meeting with Mr. Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development. The meeting focused on presenting a broad range of investment opportunities in Somalia, with both parties agreeing to continue engagement at the technical level to explore priority areas for development financing and strategic collaboration.

During both engagements, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo) actively represented the Mogadishu Port Authority, highlighting the significant progress achieved at Mogadishu Port and underscoring its strategic role in driving Somalia’s economic recovery. He emphasized the Port’s growing importance as a regional hub for trade, logistics, and maritime development, and its contribution to facilitating investment, job creation, and regional connectivity.

The Somali delegation was warmly received by officials of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Acting Chargé d’Affaires, H.E. Abdiaziz Ibrahim Hassan, who supported and facilitated the high-level engagements throughout the visit.

This visit reflects Somalia’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships, attracting strategic investment, and positioning key national institutions—particularly Mogadishu Port—as engines of sustainable economic growth and regional integration.
