Mogadishu Port, also known as Mogadishu International Port, is Somalia’s largest and most important seaport. It serves as the country’s main maritime gateway and handles the majority of Somalia’s imports and exports, making it a critical pillar of the national economy and regional trade in the Horn of Africa.

Mogadishu Port is owned by the Government of Somalia and overseen by the Mogadishu Port Authority (MPA). Daily port operations are managed in partnership with the Turkish Albayrak Group through Mogadishu Alport Corporation, ensuring efficient, modern, and secure port services.

The port is a multi-purpose facility handling:
Containerized cargo
General and break-bulk cargo
Dry bulk (grains, cement, fertilizer, etc.)
Liquid bulk (fuel and petroleum products)
Ro-Ro cargo (vehicles and machinery)
Livestock and agricultural exports
This diversity allows the port to support nearly all maritime trade needs of Somalia.

Mogadishu Port covers over 300,000–350,000 square meters and includes container terminals, general cargo berths, warehouses, container yards, reefer yards, vehicle storage areas, grain silos, and oil terminals. The port is equipped with modern cranes, reach stackers, and support vessels to ensure smooth cargo handling.

Mogadishu Port serves major global shipping lines including MSC, Maersk, CMA-CGM, and others. The port typically receives 10–15 container vessels per month, connecting Somalia directly to global trade routes.

MPA enforces a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Security Policy covering all employees, contractors, visitors, and port users. Measures include mandatory PPE, traffic control, vessel safety procedures, emergency response teams, fire and medical services, and continuous safety training to ensure a secure working environment.

Yes. Following recent security and infrastructure improvements, Mogadishu Port now operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing faster vessel turnaround times and improved service reliability for shipping lines and port users

Mogadishu Port has seen major efficiency gains in recent years. Ship waiting times have been reduced to around six hours, container handling productivity has increased significantly, and in 2024 the port was ranked the most efficient port in East Africa by the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index

MPA is planning a new, state-of-the-art port facility approximately 35 km north of Mogadishu. The project will include a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), logistics hubs, and industrial areas to accommodate growing trade volumes and position Mogadishu as a major regional maritime and manufacturing hub.
