European Union High-Level Delegation Visits Mogadishu Port

The Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), together with the Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Biixi Imaan Cige, welcomed a high-level delegation from the European Union during an official visit to the Port of Mogadishu.

The visiting delegation was led by the EU Ambassador to Somalia, Mrs. Francesca Di Mauro, and included Mr. Sander Van Kooten, Senior Official of the European Investment Bank (EIB) responsible for loan operations in Eastern and Southern Africa. The visit formed part of ongoing engagement between Somalia and its international partners to support infrastructure development and economic recovery.

During the visit, the European Union delegation congratulated the Federal Government of Somalia on Mogadishu Port’s recent achievements, recognizing it as the leading port in East Africa and the fourth most improved port in Africa. The commendation reflects the significant reforms and modernization efforts undertaken at the Port in recent years.

The Minister of Finance and the Director General, accompanied by Deputy Directors and senior port officials, conducted an inspection tour of key operational areas within the Port. The delegation was briefed on ongoing development projects, institutional reforms, and operational improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.

The visit highlighted Mogadishu Port’s growing role as a strategic national asset and a key driver of Somalia’s economic recovery. It also reaffirmed the importance of strong partnerships with international institutions in supporting sustainable development, investment, and long-term growth within Somalia’s maritime and logistics sectors.
