A New Era for Somalia’s Gateway: Mogadishu Port Launches 24/7 Operations

Under the leadership of the Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), Mogadishu Port officially commenced 24-hour operations on 14 November 2025, marking a historic milestone in the Port’s operational transformation.

The launch also introduced continuous cargo vehicle movement within the Port, a major step toward improving efficiency, reducing congestion, and enhancing overall logistics performance. This initiative represents a significant advancement in the Port’s capacity to support growing trade volumes and meet national economic needs.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, H.E. Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, the Commander of the Somali Police Force, General Asad Osman Abdullahi, the Deputy Manager of Mogadishu Port, and other senior government and port officials. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of the initiative and the strong institutional coordination supporting its implementation.

In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo) emphasized that round-the-clock operations will significantly boost productivity, facilitate smoother trade flows, and improve traffic movement within the capital. He noted that the initiative reflects a deliberate strategy to modernize port operations and align Mogadishu Port with international standards.

The Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport commended the Director General and the entire Port workforce for the tangible improvements achieved under their leadership, highlighting the Port’s growing role as a driver of economic growth and national development.

The transition to 24/7 operations marks a defining moment for Mogadishu Port, reinforcing its position as a modern, efficient, and resilient gateway for Somalia’s trade and a cornerstone of the country’s economic progress.
